Anne Hathaway Should Be Your Role Model

2012 was the year of Anne Hathaway. She played Catwoman in the last instalment of the Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises and she also played Fantine in the movie adaptation of Les Misérables. Because she was playing such iconic roles, she faced an insane amount of hatred. The way she handled the pressure is just one of the many reasons why we should take a page from Anne Hathaway’s book, along with these other reasons.

Anne Hathaway hates talking about her weight

which is great. Being a female in the entertainment industry, Anne Hathaway is constantly bombarded with questions about her weight. Especially within this past year. She went from playing Catwoman who is known as being a huge sex symbol to playing Fantine, a starving woman in 19th century France. While doing press for both of these movies, Anne would constantly be questioned about her weight and her workout regime. When an interviewer asked a slightly sexist questions about the cat suit, she just shuts down the interviewer. When she would be asked about her weight loss for Les Mis, she always makes a point to say that her character was dying. Being that skinny is not healthy! She does not want people idealizing the fact that she lost 25 pounds in two weeks.

When there’s controversy, she handles it with poise

There was an incident in 2012 where Anne was not wearing underwear and a paparazzi took a picture of her getting out of her car. Of course, the media went crazy. Matt Lauer asked her about this on the Today Show, and she answered the question with so much poise. There is a really small number of celebrities that could have handled the situation as well as Anne did.

She is the underdog

As mentioned above, Anne Hathaway faced a lot of criticism for her two main roles in 2012. Everyone doubted her when she was cast as both Fantine and Selina Kyle. Anne got her big break playing Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries movies and people just continue to associate her with that role. People seem to doubt her just because she got her start in a Disney movie and they don’t think she can handle anything else. I don’t really have any words for this because I think Anne’s 10 awards for Best Supporting Actress for her role of Fantine speak for themselves.

She’s unexpected

When you watch interviews of Anne, you learn that she is funny and charming and smart in a way that a lot of celebrities just aren’t. She just seems like a breath of fresh air to the movie industry. She also has unexpected talents, such as singing. Anne Hathaway never really sang publicly before Les Mis and like I said, her 10 awards for best supporting actress kind of speak for themselves in this case. In an interview on Conan she actually surprised everyone by rapping a song she wrote about her dislike for the paparazzi. Who knew Anne could rap?!

All in all I think women just need to stop looking up to women like the Kardashian’s and perhaps take a page from Anne Hathaway’s book. She is a classy woman and woman should look to her as a role model for how to present themselves.
